🟢 Light Cannabis Under Attack: The EU Blocks Meloni’s Decree

Italy tries to ban light cannabis — but the EU steps in. A rushed decree, legal gaps, and a growing green resistance. Clorophobia reports from the front line.

2025 was supposed to be the year of the green shift. Instead, in Italy, it’s shaping up to be a step back into the shadows. With a sudden decree, the Meloni government moved to ban light cannabis, striking at the heart of a young, sustainable, and growing agricultural sector.
But this time, something went wrong — and it wasn’t just farmers or patients speaking up: it was the European Union.

🚫 A Rushed Move, a Broken Process

The government decree reclassifies industrial hemp as a narcotic, effectively erasing years of progress, innovation, and legal cultivation.
Over 22,000 people risk being criminalized. Dozens of businesses are shutting down. Fields are being switched back to corn. The message is clear: roll it all back.

But in its rush, the government skipped a critical step. According to EU Directive 2015/1535, any member state must notify the European Commission before introducing technical measures that restrict intra-EU trade.
Italy didn’t.

🇪🇺 Europe Pushes Back

The backlash was swift. Industry groups submitted a petition to the European Parliament — and it was accepted. The European Commission launched a formal inquiry and sent a letter of complaint to the Italian government.
Effectively, the EU froze the decree and questioned its legality.

This means the ban might already be invalid. Italian courts, based on EU law, could disregard it. A legal and political battle is just beginning.

🌱 More Than Just Flowers

This isn’t just about light cannabis. It’s an attack on ecological transition, medical freedom, and agricultural innovation.
Hemp is not a threat — it’s a solution. It cleans up toxic soil, absorbs more CO₂ than trees, and requires no pesticides. It’s fiber, food, medicine, future. And maybe, that’s exactly why it scares them.

✊ The Green Resistance Lives On

Clorophobia was born to tell these stories. To expose. To resist.
We won’t be silent in the face of political and legal aggression that ignores science, sustainability, and the will of thousands of European citizens.

Cannabis is not the problem. Pesticides are.
So is legislative ignorance.
So is unchecked power.

And we, from here, will keep growing awareness.
